Maria João d'Orey
The landscape designer of the Cidade Jardim universe: gardens of European and tropical reference that sign some of the city's most exclusive addresses.
Who she is
Maria João d’Orey is a Portuguese-born, naturalised Brazilian landscape designer, with around four decades of career and family roots in the craft (daughter of a landscape designer). Her work combines European reference, the North American school and the macro-landscaping of Burle Marx, with a strong presence of palm trees, tree-lined avenues, ornamental grasses and flowering plants. She is a recurring name on the ultra-high-end axis of Cidade Jardim.
Concept
- Philosophy: landscapes “to interact with”, uniting the tradition of European gardens with Brazilian tropical exuberance.
- Typical planting: palm trees, tree-lined avenues, ornamental grasses and flowers, in large-scale compositions.
Landmark gardens
- Fazenda Santa Helena, in Bragança Paulista — gardens of the villas at the JHSF development.
- Landscape design for Shopping Cidade Jardim, in São Paulo.
- The condominium and Hotel Fasano at Fazenda Boa Vista, in Porto Feliz.
- Residences in Jardim América and the Boa Vista country residential development (with architecture by Sig Bergamin).
