Village Camargo Cabral

History

The Village dates from 1976 — the vintage when Itaimi was still a residential neighbourhood and Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Limai had not yet become a corporate axis. It is a set of two towers built on a plot large enough to accommodate an official tennis court, a design decision that has virtually disappeared from the region’s development vocabulary. The development, construction and authorship of the project are not documented in a primary source and, for that reason, are not attributed here.

• Concept: a generous plot and low density on a block that today is among the most sought-after in the city — club-style leisure resolved inside the condominium, not in the surroundings.
• Trivia: Rua Camargo Cabral is a short street of strictly local circulation, wedged between Jacurici, Seridó and Professor Artur Ramos. It is one of the few addresses in Itaim with no through traffic.

Architecture and aesthetics

Two towers, square-plan 268 m² units — the geometry that allows a multi-space living room without a wasted corridor and that, four decades on, still absorbs heavy renovation without fighting the structure. High-floor units have an open, permanent view over the neighbourhood’s residential core, a condition guaranteed by how the set sits on the plot. The authorship of the architectural project is not publicly documented and, for that reason, is not attributed here.

Itaim Bibi: the address

This is the Itaimi that almost no one sees from inside a car: the residential pocket where the neighbourhood borders Jardim Europai and Jardim Paulistanoi, made up of short streets — Camargo Cabral, Jacurici, Seridó, Professor Artur Ramos — that lead nowhere but to the houses themselves. A few minutes away are Avenida Brigadeiro Faria Limai, the Shopping Iguatemii, Parque do Povoi and Esporte Clube Pinheirosi; a few metres away, silence. It is this dual condition — the country’s financial centre right there, and no car passing in front — that made the block one of the most expensive per square metre in São Paulo, and that Faria Lima’s recent verticalisation has only reinforced.
