Márcio Curi & Azevedo Antunes

Who they are

Márcio Curi & Azevedo Antunes Arquitetura is not a pair of freelance professionals — it is a practice, founded in 1998 by Márcio Curi and Carlos de Azevedo Antunes, based in Vila Olímpia, São Paulo. In 2008, the house changed its brand, visual identity and name, becoming MCAA Arquitetos. It is the same company: when a project’s credit line carries the long name, it is dating the work to the practice’s first cycle.

That cycle coincides with the boom of São Paulo property development in the 2000s, and the output of the period is precisely large-scale residential towers — the full brief delivered to the developer, from design to construction detailing, including interior architecture and consulting to developments.

Carlos de Azevedo Antunes remains at the helm of the house as chairman and founder. In 2023, marking twenty-five years, he summed up the practice’s reach in three figures: value generation equivalent to R$ 200 billion, hundreds of architects trained for the market, and the lives of more than half a million people touched by owning their own apartment.

Language

  • Style: architecture for large-scale property development — residential towers with a full leisure programme, designed for the real-estate product and for the city’s approval rhythm.
  • Materials and brand: a full-service offering to the developer (design, construction detailing, interiors, consulting); the condominiums from this period usually come with the complete signature package, sharing the technical spec sheet with well-known landscapers and decorators.
  • Awards: the following phase, already under MCAA Arquitetos, has accumulated International Property Awards and Global Future Design Awards.
