Who they are
Oscar Niemeyer (Rio de Janeiro, 1907–2012) was the greatest name in Brazilian modern architecture and one of the most influential in the world. A pioneer in the plastic use of reinforced concrete, he turned the straight line of functionalism into free curves that became his trademark. Author of more than 600 projects, he received the Pritzker Prize in 1988. His name anchors any address in a tradition of architecture of historic stature.
