Awarded in New York, in Milan and at the Biennale — and, in Jardim Europa, twelve houses behind a single gate. The firm that pursues a contemporary language beyond the commonplace.
Who it is
Basiches Arquitetos Associados was founded in 1999 by São Paulo architect José Ricardo Basiches, who graduated in 1997 from the Faculdade de Belas Artes de São Paulo. Ronaldo Shinohara, who graduated in 1997 from FAU Mackenzie, has collaborated with the firm since 2005 and has been a partner since 2010. The house is located on Rua General Jardim, in the central region, and works across every segment of architecture, including interior design projects, from creation and concept through to completion.
The repertoire is deliberately broad: condominiums, lofts, shops, offices, nightclubs and gyms, in addition to residences and institutional retrofits. The firm presents itself as part of a group of professionals committed to developing a new architecture for a new society — and its award-winning output over a decade and a half backs up the ambition.
Language
- Style: a declared pursuit of a contemporary language beyond the commonplace, with attention to façade rhythm and typological variety within the same building.
- Signature: in the Pascal tower, the firm vertically stacked very different typologies — from compact units to three-storey suites — and let that variety show on the façade, repeating the combinations in glass, masonry and perforated steel sheeting until the rhythm becomes the building’s own design. The two blocks each align to the street they face, which makes the reading of the ensemble change as the observer walks along.
